What is Time Trial Tuesday?

Time Trial Tuesday is a series of 3 races held on various Tuesdays throughout the Summer in Okoboji.  Time trial (TT) racing can be an exhilarating activity and a great way to reach your fitness goals. An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bike race in which cyclists race alone against the clock on flat or rolling terrain, literally "against the watch",  ITTs are also referred to as "the race of truth", as winning depends only on each rider's strength and endurance, and not on help provided by teammates and others riding ahead and creating a slipstream.  We started this because there are so few events in the Midwest to put all your hard winter work to the test.  Why not make a fun event that everyone can participate in, regardless of skill set?  Each stage will pose it's own challenges, but nothing abnormally difficult.  In fact, the hardest thing will most likely be the wind that day and telling your legs to keep pedaling!

Are There Awards?

It wouldn't be a race if there wasn't!  This is the first time we have done this, but here is what we know for sure:

Male

Overall Winner (least amount of time accumulated over all 3 stages) : The Yellow Jersey (and perhaps a TT helmet)

2nd Place: Clique HD camera/taillight

3rd Place: Wahoo Fitness HR Monitor

Female

Overall Winner (least amount of time accumulated over all 3 stages) : The Yellow Jersey

2nd Place: Clique HD camera/taillight

3rd Place: Wahoo Fitness HR Monitor

Stage Win:  Aero Shoe Cover

If we get enough participants, we will break it down into the following *age groups:

Under 25

25 - 40

41 - 50

55+

Age group winners will receive Velotoes and a box of honey stinger waffles

You MUST sign up and do all 3 stages in order to qualify for awards.  You are free to do 2 out of the 3 races, but you will not qualify for the awards.

* we will only use age groups if there are 5+ competitors in each group, so if you want age group awards, you better bring a friend!

What Are the Rules?

What Are the Rules?

With most events and races, there are rules.  We keep them pretty short and simple.

1. You MUST wear a helmet when riding at all times. No exceptions.

2. NO DRAFTING.  None, zero, zip, zilch.  This is an individual time trial.  Team Trials          are later to come.

3. You must have your ticket AND your waiver signed before you can compete.

4. Ride FAST

5. Have FUN

Where can I find a course map?

The course maps can be found by clicking each Stage photo below, or simply at on Strava website or App. The segments on Strava are titled just as they are in the photos.

What Ifs

1. What if it is raining?

Answer: We will ride so long as there is not lighting.  If there is lightning, we will alert you as soon as possible with cancelation and make up date. This is why its important for everyone to register

2. What if I can't make all of the races?

Answer:  That is just fine!  Feel free to register for those that you can.  Just know you wont be eligible for the prize pool

3. How long will each one take?

Answer:  That all depends on how fast you ride.  Generally, a TT of these distances will take less than 50 minutes. Then the ride back home will vary based on distance.  We estimate we will be pulling back into the shop around 8 o'clock.

4.  What if I don't have a fast race bike?

Answer:  Then you will race whatever bike you have!  You're always welcome to rent faster equipment from the Okoboji Expedition Company if need be.  Otherwise, the bike you have will work just fine, so long as it actually work!  Rental availability can be found Here

5.  What if I have never done a Time Trial before?

Answer:  That is just fine!  You won't be the only one.  Good news is, these are technical races.  All you need to do is pedal hard until you cross the finish line.  We are always available for any questions you may have.
